ALTAR SERVERS
“I will go to the altar of God,
to God who gives joy to my youth…”-Psalm 42
WHO CAN SERVE? Children who are in 4th grade on up are welcomed and encouraged to be trained as an altar server. Adults are also welcome.
HOW TO BE TRAINED:
Our parish holds regular scheduled altar server trainings. If you are interested in serving or having your child serve, please call Sue Miller at the parish office x108 or email [email protected].
Always remember that having the ability to serve at the Altar of God is a gift. Serve each Mass as if it were the first, the last, and the only Mass. Fulfill your responsibilities to the best of your ability while maintaining the attitude of prayer. The Lord is truly present, so give Him your all!
Responsibilities:
Arrive 15 minutes before the Mass and report to the sacristy. Altar servers are responsible for the set-up before Mass ensuring the candles are lit, the sacramentary and books are placed, bells and water for the hand wash with the towel are placed.
Scheduling:
You will be asked for your email address and Mass preference when you are trained. The schedules are created monthly, and you will receive them via email. There is also a printed server schedule in the ushers room, located in the back of the church by the confessional. You will be provided a roster of other servers, with email addresses and phone numbers to use if you are not able to make your scheduled day.
Attendance:
Upon arrival, servers are asked to sign in (book is in the sacristy).
Substitution/Replacement:
It is the responsibility of all altar servers to find a substitute when they are unable to serve. If you are not able to come on your scheduled day, we ask that you reach out to other servers to find a replacement. For Holy days and extraordinary Masses or services we will place a sign-up sheet in the sacristy, and ask for volunteers. With everyone’s support, there should be no problem filling the positions at each Mass.
Communication:
If you have any concerns, please speak with Sue Miller, or one of the priests or deacons.
It is our goal to make the servers feel welcomed and comfortable with offering their service to the church.
